Secretary of State Rubio Backs Multi-Year HOPE/HELP Reauthorization

On April 21, Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Haitian Prime Minister Alix Fils-Aimé, reaffirming U.S. backing for a multi-year reauthorization of the HOPE/HELP trade preference program as part of broader stabilization efforts. During the meeting, Rubio “welcomed progress” on Haiti’s Gang Suppression Force deployment and underscored the importance of security gains as a precondition for the country’s path to elections. Long-term HOPE/HELP reauthorization is crucial to that security push, as the job creation driven by the program is a pillar of lasting stability.
